Independent Study of Herbal Dietary Supplement Proves it to be Safe and Effective!
- Metabolife International Sets Precedent With
Proactive Testing -
BW HEALTHWIRE -Nov. 25, 1997
-- Vanderbilt University Medical Center today released it's results on the safety and efficacy of San Diego based Metabolife International's herbal dietary supplement, Metabolife 356.The preliminary results of this independent scientific study prove that the herbal supplement is a "promising and effective product in chronic weight loss and weight management."
This is the first time in the United States that an all natural herbal product has been independently tested and found effective under Western medicine standards.
The study further showed that Metabolife 356 "indicated a body fat loss without additional exercise or change in diet," said Dr. Harry Gwirtsman, associate professor at Vanderbilt School of Medicine and co-conductor of the study. Metabolife 356 even increased the test subjects' energy expenditure by 5.6 percent while sleeping. Vanderbilt is the only medical school in the U.S. with a 24-hour metabolic chamber to determine weight loss.
"We saw no adverse effect that would have affected the health of our subjects in this study." said Dr. Gwirstman.
Metabolife hired the nonprofit Academy of Clinical Environmental Research and Informational Sciences (ACERIS) to contract with two medically independent board certified laboratories for its efficacy studies. Vanderbilt School of Medicine and Science, Toxicology & Technology (ST&T) were selected.
"We wanted to ensure that our products were safe and effective," said Michael Ellis, president of Metabolife. "We are thrilled to have independent scientific proof of the beneficial effects of Metabolife 356."
Metabolife International, Inc. was founded in 1994. In addition to its flagship weight loss supplement Metabolife 356, the company manufactures a diverse line of herbal products including vitamin supplements, all-natural sleep aids, skin care products and exercise equipment. Sales figures for Metabolife in 1997 are projected to exceed more than $100 million. Currently, several new products are in development, each of which will offer scientific evidence of safety and efficacy. (BW HEALTHWIRE- 25 November 1997 05:03 EST)
DID YOU KNOW?......
- Many imported herbal products contain very
inconsistent amounts of their listed ingredients because of the lack of regulation, and
their sub-par manufacturing processes. A few random samples have shown variance by as much
as 1 - 130 mg (which is not only quite significant, but unacceptable for energy
enhancers).
With Metabolife
356, quality and consistency are not only guaranteed, but upheld by the assaying
process used in the manufacture of all Metabolife Products!
Metabolife is made right here in the U.S., at a state-of-the-art, Goverment registered
facility (Colorado). It is the only herbal product currently on the market to
achieve the ACERIS Quality Assurance Seal, which means that Metabolife 356 not only meets,
but exceeds regulatory requirements.

- Two of the active ingredients in Metabolife 356 are Ma Huang, a
natural source of Ephedrine, and Guarana, a natural source of Caffeine. Ephedrine +
Caffeine = EC. (See Item 6)
The following is an abstract of a series of tests made on diet pills and reported in the June
1996, Townsend Letter for Doctors and Patients:
[1] "A recent study found that in most overweight individuals the combination of
Ephedrine + caffeine (EC) was (29% more effective) than Dexfenfluramine."
(Note: for possible dangerous side effects of Dexfenfluramine see September 1996
Time and February 1997 Money magazines.)
[2] Another study found that when compared to losing weight by diet alone EC had a positive influence on body composition. (Increasing fat loss by 100% and decreasing muscle loss by 72%)
[3] A third study found that EC increased HDL levels by 9% compared to a 5% decrease in the placebo group. Long term use of Ephedrine has also been shown to improve insulin sensitivity.
[4] Although adverse effects are common (1 in 20) with initial use of EC, they decrease by 90% or more with continued use. Although EC may initially increase blood pressure 3-7mm, long term use is usually associated with a decrease.
[5] Ephedrine is relatively safe, it has been sold OTC in the U.S. since 1926, with few published reports of toxicity. On a per dose basis, ephedrine appears safer than aspirin.
[6] Although recent media attention on diet pills has been focused on Fenfluramine and Phenternune (Fen/Phen), the soon to be approved Dexfenfluramine (Redux) or drugs in development like beta-3 agonist, EC APPEAR SAFER, CHEAPER AND MORE EFFECTIVE THAN ANY OTHER DIET PILL!
****** That is what Metabolife 356 is all about: The assurance of SAFETY and EFFECTIVENESS! *******
